E-Drums Accessories

Here are some nice gadgets that will help you practice, make playing the e-set easier and increase the fun factor.

Metronome

There are of course hardware solutions like the KORG MA-1, but I'm a fan of software-based solutions. After trying different apps on the iPhone, I got stuck with the app PolyNome Pro. It has an enormous range of functions and a huge advantage: you can save entire song sets, then you have the right tempo for the song live or at rehearsal. By the way, the range of functions goes far beyond a pure metronome. Complete practice routines are included, including stickings, accents, flams, etc. For complex songs, complete metronome guide clicks can also be programmed, in every conceivable time signature, including odd time signatures of course.

Rubber beater for foot machine

With classic felt beaters, the felt is virtually rubbed off at the meshhead, which then looks terrible because all the felt flour is on the floor and also glues the chain of the foot machine.

In addition, the felt abrasion can penetrate through the mesh head and contaminate the electronics. The manufacturers therefore recommend rubber, plastic or wooden beaters. Personally, I have had good experiences with replacing the normal felt beaters of the foot machine with rubber beaters. The different manufacturers have solutions for this. With Tama, for example, you can replace the beater relatively easily.

The feel is influenced by the rubber beater, that can not be disputed. The rebound is then somewhat harder and stronger. Once you get used to it, then it works perfectly.

Patch for bass drum

The mesh heads of bass drum pads are subjected to high mechanical stress by the beater. At some point, the mesh head will crack. To avoid this, you can stick on so-called bass drum patches, which serve as an additional protective layer.

The patches have - in my opinion - no influence on the playing feel. They are therefore a good way to extend the life of the bass drumhead for little money. Personally, I prefer to use the REMO Falam Slam. It's extremely durable, designed for double bass pedals and sticks well to the meash head.
